I have been with CSM for more than 14 years. In 2017 Pete and I purchased the firm from his dad and David’s dad. From the beginning CSM has been my second home and my second family. The former shareholders imparted their values for doing good work for our clients and living a full life that goes beyond days at the office. It’s important to value what we do in our communities and with our families as much as our professional work.
My clients span a variety of industries. Tier 2 and smaller automotive suppliers, light manufacturing, product developers and designers, fast fresh restaurant operations, real estate investors and developers.
This academic year I am teaching secured transactions at my law school alma mater University of Detroit Mercy School of Law. Earning an opportunity to teach law students has been a long-time professional goal that I have been working toward. This opportunity presented itself after years of writing and presentations with the American Bankruptcy Institute. Another professional achievement of 2019 is the opportunity to author the bankruptcy causes of action section of the Michigan Institute of Continuing Legal Education (ICLE).
Outside of the office, I serve on the board of the Economic Development Corporation for the City of Detroit and I have actively volunteered in community development efforts in Detroit for more than 16 years.
During one of the most weak and vulnerable times of my life I couldn’t begin to thank Kim Clayson and her team enough. I asked a family friend and attorney for a referral that day, and the same day he immediately got me in touch with Kim. It was what I just needed. That day Kim took the time to educate me, listen to me, offer guidance, and more than ever made me feel confident knowing we were making the right steps for our family. I am so grateful that when I needed a bankruptcy lawyer, Kim was there that very same day. With her guidance and support, I knew my family and I had won. I am forever grateful for Kim’s hard work, expertise, and advocacy for myself and my family when I needed someone. Kim truly is a leader in the field and set an example for others to learn from.

She explained the process every step of the way and assisted me when she could to make the process easier on my end. Kim Clayson is a very knowledgeable attorney who works diligently and is always there to answer questions throughout the process. She has had to research many complicated issues for me. She takes the time to provide direction and explains at length what is happening and what to expect. I truly appreciate her counsel and advice.
Kim was by far the best thing that happened to my wife and I as far as our financial difficulties !!! She was so helpful in every aspect of our financial dilemma !! We owe extended years of our lives due to Kim. Thank You so much !!!
I found Kim through a direct reference from a design colleague and would recommend her just as strongly to any other small business or creative mind. She’s very attentive to individual needs and is willing to think through fee structure and working relationship to suit the exact project needs. Her experience, interest and insights are strong, and if she doesn’t have the immediate answer to a unique question she knows exactly how to move the work forward to resolve and explore the issue. She’s always been readily available, completely open in communication, and timely. Kim’s personality is also down-to-earth, encouraging, calm and strong. These are all attributes that seem to perfectly resonate with the energy that a small business needs. I’d recommend her highly over and over again.
Clayson is an excellent attorney for our small business. We’re big enough to get into confusing legal situations, but too small to have a full-time person to handle HR, property transaction and general organization questions. Very grateful for the service!
